From March 18 till 20, 2016 in Prague The BAZAAR Festival of Identity in Art and Motion will take place. This will be an international dance and performing arts festival featuring the visions of artists not only from the Czech Republic but from other countries in central, eastern and south-east Europe. All are dealing with questions of identity in art and motion. The very first Bazaar festival took place in 2015 as part of the IDENTITY.MOVE! project – an international platform for the support of theoretical and artistic research in contemporary physical and dance theatre. IDENTITY.MOVE! was coordinated by Goethe-Institut Warsaw in cooperation with Centre for Culture Lublin, Motus, producers of the Alfred ve dvoře Theatre Prague and the State School of Dance in Athens with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union. Latvia was also represented through The Association of the Professional Contemporary Dance Choreographers of Latvia as associated partner and Krisjanis Sants and Andis Geste as two of the artists chosen by curators. Even if the project has officially ended it continues its life through network and now also through The BAZAAR festival that carries on the idea. Another significant outcome that keeps living virtually is IDENTITY. MOVE! e-book that is available on-line for free in different formats – http://identitymove.eu/identity.move-e-book.html.  Check it out! It is a good read and vary vast range of perspectives. Print pagePDF page

This summer Latvia is hosting international residency program “Wilderness dance”. In two locations – Bebrene and Ainažos. The idea of the program is to be directly influenced and inspired from the surrounding nature and local inhabitants and through that during three weeks dance companies from Nordic countries while living in the specific locations work on their new dance works.  The residency of Norwegian choreographer Ingri Fiksdal and her team in Bebrene concluded on July 3 with the first public presentation of the upcoming performance. In its turn, the second residency, within which choreographer Janina Rajakangas and her dancers spend three weeks in place called Ainaži, will have its public showing on July 17 at 20:00 in Ainaži culture house. DANCE.LV Journal was lucky to look into the rehearsal that’s why we can say with confidence that it is worth going to Ainaži if you happen to be around the beautiful beaches of Vidzeme anyway.
